About the event
Power generation and access to gas will be discussed. David Ige, the Gas Master plan lead in Nigeria for NNPC, should present a paper as well as Mahama Kappiah from ECREEE. They would have to share the renewable energy potential and projects in the West African region. By the time WAPIC comes around next year, the Nigeria power sector assets should have all been sold and the names of the new company owners will be available. These are the companies that will be our new delegate audience and speakers depending on what they are doing and showcasing any successes they have.
WAPIC will look at Nigerian PPP Network, currently engaged in developing a modern PPP law, a reference manual for Nigerians from all the states. Nigeria is the champion for the African PPP network. They are currently working with the Governor’s forum to get across the country and looking at all industry sectors as well. River State was the first state to pass PPP laws.
Access to finance and developing the investment environment is a must for the main conference and pre-conference day. This was the most well attended pre-conference day and remains the major bottleneck in the development of the industry. IFC, World Bank and all the multilateral donors would be great to get on board for this session. This continues the dialogue between the financiers, policy makers and utility/project developers to increase cash flow into the sector.
WAPIC goes to Nigeria ’s vibrant industrial and commercial capital of Lagos in 2012. With the urgent need to engage the industrial community, Nigeria has oil, manufacturing, food & beverage and plastics industries adversely affected by power shortages and the less that efficient electricity power sector in Nigeria.
WAPIC will bring with it the rest of the region’s power sector players, international consultants and experts, project developers and investors and the financial community all under one roof!
What do we know about Nigeria?
Nigeria’s current electricity power output is about 4,000 Megawatts. To bring electricity power to its 150 million people, Nigeria has plans to expand electricity output to 14,000 MW by 2013 and 40,000 MW by 2020. This will need $3.5bn per annum for the next 10 years.
With all this activity going on in Nigeria – we are delighted to be taking WAPIC delegates there in 2012 to help Nigeria to address its power sector challenges and bring further expertise, investment and power sector solutions into the country.
